first of all , i have to say i m also siu hak's fans.
but i dun think he is an illustrator with good basic skill.
i like his drawing and sketch, because they gave me warm feeling, and his funny, amazing idea. also, which he talk in this issue-----his own "style"
In fact, not because he has good skill.
im a polytechnic student and we also learnt watercolour and sketch basic technic, lots of students can draw BETTER than him. but we do not have his funny thinking and idea, also his style. im disagree with siuhak because he said hong kong art students just love to develope their own style without basic skill(sorry about that because he is our tutor!!) we love to develope our own style,BUT WE ALSO GOT SKILL. we love him not because he had good skill, but his own style.

Now that my sis has helped my understand what siuhak has written here, it shows me that even commercial illustrators must engage in an important part of artistic training, critical studies.

小克基本功如何,現在我們作讀者的也看不出來吧. so what if lots of student can draw better than him? how do you define what is better and what is beauty? even if students can draw better than him, does it mean their basic techniques are enough?

風格不是不好,個人style沒有錯,重要的是,個人風格不是根基不好的藉口.

事實是,的確很多學生根基未穩便急於找風格,分鏡也未學懂就要拍王家衛風,別人看不懂就用風格解釋一切
(hk poly is just a water drop out of a ocean... this kind of attitude is a trend,is a fact, you can say you got skills, but you can only represent yourself. be objective.
